Publication Ethics
This statement clarifies the ethical behavior of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in the International Journal of Halal Studies (IJHS), including the authors, editors, peer reviewers, and publisher. This policy is based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication
The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal such as the International Journal of Halal Studies is a vital component in the development of a coherent and respected body of knowledge. It reflects the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles embody the scientific method and academic integrity. Therefore, it is essential to establish ethical standards for all parties involved in the publishing process—authors, editors, reviewers, the publisher, and the wider scholarly community.
Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Mas Said Surakarta, as the publisher of this journal, takes its responsibilities seriously at every stage of publication. We are committed to ensuring that commercial interests (such as advertising or reprints) do not influence editorial decisions. Additionally, the editorial board of the International Journal of Halal Studies will assist in communication with other journals and publishers as needed, particularly in cases involving ethical concerns.
Publication Decisions
The editors of the International Journal of Halal Studies are responsible for deciding which articles submitted to the journal should be published. Decisions are based on recommendations from editorial board members and peer reviewers, as well as adherence to the journal's editorial policy and legal requirements regarding libel, copyright, and plagiarism. Editors may consult with the editorial team and reviewers in making final decisions.
Non-Discrimination
Editors and reviewers evaluate manuscripts solely on their academic merit—regardless of the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic background, nationality, or political views.
Confidentiality
All submitted manuscripts are treated as confidential documents. The editorial staff, including editors and reviewers, must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, or the publisher.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used by any editorial board members or reviewers in their own research. Reviewers and editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.
Duties of Reviewers
-
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Reviewers assist editors in making publication decisions and in improving the quality of submitted manuscripts. IJHS follows a double-blind review process. -
Timeliness
Reviewers are expected to submit their reviews promptly. If they are unable to meet the deadline, the editorial team will reassign the manuscript to another reviewer. -
Confidentiality
Reviewers must treat the manuscript as confidential and must not discuss its contents with others. -
Standards of Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Reviewers should provide clear feedback and avoid personal criticism of the author. -
Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should identify any relevant work that has not been cited and report any substantial similarity between the manuscript under review and other published work. -
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Reviewers must declare any potential conflicts of interest and avoid reviewing manuscripts where such conflicts exist.
Duties of Authors
-
Reporting Standards
Authors must present an accurate account of their work and its significance. The data and methodology should be clearly described to allow replication. -
Data Access and Retention
Authors may be required to provide raw data during the review process and should be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time. -
Originality and Plagiarism
Submitted manuscripts must be original. Authors must properly cite or quote the work of others. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism will be rejected. -
Multiple or Redundant Publication
Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously. A submitted manuscript should not be previously published or under consideration elsewhere.
