Peer Review Process
International Journal of Halal Studies (IJHS)
Submissions should be prepared in accordance with the Author Guidelines. Manuscripts may be returned to authors without scientific assessment if they do not meet all submission requirements, are not in the correct format, or cannot be downloaded reliably.
Submissions must represent the original and independent work of the authors. Each new submission is initially assessed by the Principal Editor to determine whether it falls within the scope and academic standards of the International Journal of Halal Studies. Manuscripts may be rejected without review if they lack sufficient content, exceed word limits, are poorly formatted, or are unclear in presentation.
Manuscripts that pass this initial screening will be assigned to the Principal Editor or an Associate Editor, who will oversee the peer-review process, evaluating the submission for originality, scholarly contribution, relevance, and presentation.
Peer Review Process
Once a manuscript passes the initial editorial checks, it is assigned to at least two independent experts for double-blind peer review. In this process, authors’ and reviewers’ identities are concealed from one another. All review comments are treated confidentially and will only be disclosed with the reviewers’ permission. Authors can expect a first decision, or a notification of delay, within 2–4 months of submission. If a revision is requested, authors should resubmit the revised version within 2–4 weeks.
The final decision will be made by the Principal Editor and/or Section Editor based on peer review reports, overall quality, and relevance to the journal’s focus.
We are committed to ensuring that all manuscripts are handled confidentially and ethically throughout the review process, in accordance with our publication ethics policy.
Editorial Decision Types
There are four possible editorial decisions that can be made during the review process:
-
Decline Submission
The manuscript is deemed unsuitable for publication in the International Journal of Halal Studies based on peer review or editorial assessment. -
Resubmit for Review
The manuscript shows potential but requires major revision. Authors are encouraged to resubmit as a new submission after addressing the editors’ concerns. Resubmissions will typically be returned to the original Associate Editor if available. -
Revision
The manuscript requires moderate revision. Authors are requested to revise the paper based on reviewer and editor feedback and resubmit within two weeks, along with a point-by-point response to comments. Revisions may undergo further peer review. -
Accept Submission
The manuscript is accepted for publication pending minor changes such as formatting, stylistic adjustments, or clarity improvements. After editorial approval, the article moves to the production stage.
Galley Proofs
Page proofs will be sent to the corresponding author for final checking before publication. Corrections should be limited to printer’s errors only. Any significant changes (including to grammar, equations, or text) may incur additional charges. Proofs must be returned within three days to avoid delay in publication. Authors are fully responsible for reviewing and confirming the accuracy of the content at this stage.
Editorial and Publishing Workflow
